The meta-analysis included 17 studies comprising 3,702 observations of patients with potential delirium across 11 countries in multiple languages in patients older than 65 years. Settings included inpatient general medical or geriatric wards, acute stroke units, postoperative units, and emergency departments (EDs). The number of participants in each study ranged from 49 to 785. The pooled prevalence of delirium was 24.2%, ranging from 10.5% to 61.9%. The 4AT score demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity for identifying delirium, ranging from 0.86 to 0.88 and 0.87 to 0.89, respectively, depending on the studies included (Table).
