Anacardic acid reduces lipogenesis in human differentiated adipocytes via inhibition of histone acetylation

Adipose tissue is a dynamic endocrine organ that has a great impact on overall energy and metabolic homeostasis. Recent studies have suggested that the maintenance of adequate fat volume without excessive accumulation or loss is important for energy homeostasis. Intracellular lipid accumulation and homeostasis in adipocytes is determined by lipogenesis (triglyceride synthesis) and lipolysis (triglyceride breakdown) [1]. Lipogenesis is mediated by increased expression and activity of fatty acid synthase (FAS) and acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC).
